ROAD RACE SERIES RACE 4 SIMPSONS GAP 8 August 2009

The penultimate event in the Road Race Series was a circuit race on Darken Drive turning in the carpark of Simpson’s Gap with the start and finish at the Information Centre. A Grade had 5 laps with B and C Grades riding 4 and 3 laps respectively.

C Grade had only two riders with Paul Stansall deciding to ride after turning up to watch. Andrea Martin showed no mercy and left Paul riding by himself for half the race.

In B Grade Laurie Berryman teamed up with Kathy Moylan to toy with the rest of the group by pushing off the front several times. It was Geoff Clark and David Witham that then teamed to establish a gap on the last lap with Herb McGeorge left to do the chasing before Berryman and Moylan made the decisive attack in the last 3 kilometres. Berryman reversed the results of two weeks ago by taking the win. Third place was hotly contested with Clark and Witham trying to combine against the power sprint of McGeorge.

In A Grade the group rode steady tempo after an easy first lap and continued apace until Clarke Petrick attacked at the turn on the last lap. Damian McGrath, Tim Day and with Craig King pulling hard together picked up the tempo but monitored the gap and left Petrick to cook himself out the front. The group came together on the last leg and the pace slowed in anticipation of the sprint. McGrath was not headed taking the win ahead of Day.
