Recumbent Solar Cycle arrives in Alice this Sunday - help needed

Good afternoon all members

This is to let you know about a very special group of cyclists who will be arriving in Alice Springs this Sunday and will be in town on Monday also. Students from Damascus College in Ballarat are riding a solar assisted recumbent bicycle from Darwin to Melbourne to raise community awareness of practical solutions to greenhouse reductions and charitable funds for sustainable food and energy programs. More details at www.roderage.com.au

Stuart McDonell and I met with some of the students and teachers in Ballarat back in May and they were able to show us how they were actually building the bicycle from scratch (including the fibreglass shell) and we were able to accompany them on a training ride (on the highway at 100km per hour - we were in the follow vehicle!!).

This is a fascinating project and this group of student and teachers are amazing.

You can log on to the website, watch the live web cast of the ride, learn a little bit and maybe make a small donation.

I would appreciate it if you could forward this to everyone you think might be interested and ask them to do the same.  Hopefully a “good” use of viral internet communication.

They are staying at the McDonnell Range Caravan Park and arrive on Sunday afternoon/evening. Monday is a rest day in town and the Rotary Club are providing a BBQ Lunch. They Mayor will officially welcome them at lunchtime and then they go to the Reptile Park at 3.00pm.

I am catering for their evening meal and I would love some help on Monday evening to serve the food.

Could you please let me know if you can help? I have already cooked the food, it needs to be heated and served.

Hope you can get down to the McDonnell Range Caravan Park and check out this amazing project and spend some time talking to the kids.

Cheers
